I've just started moving my stories from the Exchange to LJ. Aside from the audience, I like LiveJournal and WordPress both better than the Exchange, but I'm not sure which I like better between LJ and WP yet. From here out, I'll say LJ/WP to refer to both sites, as most of what I have to say applies to both.
Someone above me posted that having ratings instead of comments was an advantage of the Exchange, but I prefer the comments. I guess that's more feature than overall benefit, since some will like ratings better, and some will like comments better.
I also like that on LJ/WP you can have more text per picture. I didn't like how sometimes I had to split a dialogue into two slides because it was too long. Now, I have not pushed the picture limit on either LJ or WP, so if your stories are more picture-driven, that is, where you have lots of pictures, and only a couple of lines per pic, the Exchange may fit your needs better.
This may not matter to your stories, but you have more freedom on LJ/WP, if you want more adult themes, or even the occasional cuss word. LJ even has a way to mark that, to keep someone from accidentally stumbling onto something they shouldn't. One of my stories has something that, while far from raunchy, was definitely in the PG-PG13 range, and I felt the need to sanitize and gloss over it on the exchange. On LJ, I will still handle it with sensitivity, but be clearer about what's going on.
LJ/WP have the ability to customize the look of your blog/stories, even beyond the slides themselves.
LJ/WP are both working much more reliably than the Exchange right now. Even if you 100% prefer the Exchange, it may be wise to put your stories both there and on a blog, just in case.
ETA: I just remembered another advantage of LJ/WP: You can write as many chapters as you want about a family/household, with no need for placeholders or XML file-manipulation.
