Hello all - my name is Kaldresh (on the TS3 boards I am known as Surreal).
I was a big TS1 fan, purchased TS2 but never really had time to play. So over the weekend, all of the TS2 EPs were on sale at the Origin site and I thought "you know... if you're going to have an opinion about TS2 v. TS3, perhaps you should actually play." So, I bought all the EPs and figured I'd load up and see what happens.
Long story short... not much - because I have no idea what to do! lol It seems much harder to keep your Simmies in the green (their needs deteriorate FAST), I'm not certain about going to different lots, etc. It isn't the same at all!
Sims2AmyBlue (on the TS3 boards) mentioned this site so I came over to say hi and see if anyone would mind giving this novice a tip or two. So Hi... and help? lol

Hello! I'm glad to see you joined It is much harder on TS2 but the two needs you have to watch are energy and hunger, as when they are both low sometimes that spells the end for a Sim. They won't eat because they faint with fatigue. A way around it is a cheat 'maxmotives'.

Welcome.
I've never played TS3 personally, but from what I've heard from others--and from what you actually hinted at--the games are extremely different from one another, and it's almost as if TS3 is more of its own concept and less of a TS2 sequal.
There's no story progression (I believe that's what it's called in TS3. Correct me if I'm wrong.), so other characters in the neighborhood don't age while you are playing other families. You'll have to rotate your playing of families to get that same effect. I'm not sure if that's what you meant by lots, though.
Other than that, I have nothing. Hope you enjoy the forum!

Hey Amy - thanks for the link. Thanks for the welcome LadyofShalott. @samantha: Thanks - I didn't realize the aging worked that way. It seems immediately apparent that in TS2 you play the neighborhood, whereas TS3 is designed more toward playing a specific family. What I meant about the lot is... in TS1 when you wanted to go downtown or to a store or whatever, you used the phone. In TS3 if you want to go downtown or wherever, you click on the lot and tell your Sim to go there... So, in TS2, if my Sim wanted to go downtown one night... how do I get them there? lolz Stupid I know... but I don't get it!! lol

To get to another lot, I usually click on the sim I'm playing (or a car if I have one) and in the little pop up menu there's an option that says "Walk to lot...". If you hit that another pop up comes up that says "Community lot". Once you click that, you can choose where you want to go from there. I think there's another way, but I can't think of it right now... I hope that made some sense lol.

Yeah, that's the way I do it too . But for my Sims without cars and too lazy to walk, I use the phone and 'call a taxi' or 'call for transportation'. Hope that helps :]

Yes, this is a good place to go. I think the transition from TS2 to TS3 is a little easier then TS3 to TS2. But if you go to the main menu of the sims 2 there should be a building blocks bottom in the bottom left corner.
If you click that, it should lead you to some tutorials. I didn't know that until I started playing so it would be a good place to start.

Hi, I'm BB! Welcome ! I wish my local game-selling store would do that! I think everyone pretty much covered going to different lots, but if you want to play different lots, you just go to the neighbourhood and click on the lot you want to play. I think it's pretty much the same as TS3 .

Hai-ness! Nice to meet ya, Kaldresh.
It's funny how I'd been playing TS2 for so long that whenever I made the transition to the Ts3 game for a moment, I was shocked by how hard it was motives wise. Surprising to hear you say the opposite, but I suppose it's all a matter of opinion.
Hope you have fun with the site and playing ze game though. ^_^
