Are you one of those people who just dumps it all into one folder, or do you have folders within folders within folders? I definitely fall under the latter. I'm so OCD when it comes to organization that it's probably unhealthy. There comes a point where things just start to bother me, and I have to fix/change/reorganize/delete them. I wasn't even planning to organize my downloads today, but I spent a couple of hours doing just that. It mostly involved hunting down people's preview pictures, saving them to my desktop, and then adding them to my folders. It's a pain in the butt, but it'll be so useful in the long-run. I also deleted all of my clothing. I'm in the process of re-downloading it all. I've subfoldered (is that even a word?) it all like crazy--by gender and age, then by website, then by creator, then by category. The only thing that's a mess is my buy-mode (furniture) folder. Now that I dump into one big folder. I don't actually use custom furniture for game-play, just for my story, so I'll probably just delete the folder after I finish that up. ^ That's the first layer of folders. Also, on a slightly off-topic note, I need to choose which hair textures I want to keep in my game. I'm currently using Pooklet's, Io's, and Lilith's Eva colors, and it's just far too much. Even though I don't use most of them, I fear that the desire will come as soon as I delete them. For those of you who use Pooklet, do you keep all families and textures in your game? I know I want the first family, but beyond that I'm indecisive.

I try to be organized with my downloads as well, though not so much. At first, my Fashion Folder was by gender, and then by age; though eventually it became by gender and that was it. I think I ended up doing this because it was a pain going through all the subfolders and also whenever it came to downloading sets I didn't know what was what usually and that bugged me. In my Genetics folder it has the subfolders CAS Face Replacements, Creatures, Eyes, Hair, and Skins. In my Skins and Eyes folders there is also a "Defaults" folder where I obviously put my defaults. Makeup folder is Makeup and Accessories. Mods is simply where I dump all my hacks/mods. There are a few subfolders for the bigger ones, like ACR and inTeen. Objects, like you Samantha, is basically the only folder I dump everything; not caring to subfolder it. I really don't know how I'd do it even if I felt like organizing it. So it's simply a mess. Sets is where if I download something with a million different objects in the folder I'll simply shove it in there if I get confused trying to put it in the proper folders. Sims is where I put all my packaged downloads, like lots, pets, etc. I also put all the files that get extracted from the packaged files into it as well. Whenever I'm playing my non-Maxis-Match game I usually only use Pooklet's textures. It doesn't matter what family it comes from, so long as it has Pooklet textures. I download neons whenever I can. I used to download basically every kind of pretty textured-hair I found, but eventually the need to have everything matching got to me .

My downloads folder is a complete tip. I literally just de-compress the files straight into it; so whenever I want to delete something, usually I have to do it via the game/Bodyshop. I have one folder for my defaults, but even then, half of my clothing defaults have missed going into it entirely. ACR and my romance mods have a folder though, so I can easily find them if my game goes crazy. Eventually, the next rainy day I have, I'll maybe run through the whole folder with Clean Installer and try to get some sort of order by catagorising them that way, but for now... What with my game restarting, I'm tempted to delete my downloads entirely, but there are some objects and furniture that I don't know if I'll be able to find again because I snagged them via. a downloaded house. *le sigh* I solely use Pooklet's colours, and half my hairs have Nymphy's curls, because that's the texture that Almighty Hat uses in her recolours. I love Lillith's Evas but since they're not as common, I generally can't get the hairs I want in them, so I don't go for them. I hate it when I have hair colours that don't match. I mainly keep all four families, although I don't often use them all. I like to have a lot of choice.

^ I love Nymphy's curls. I also have a lot of those, too.
When I first started downloading CC, it was exclusively off the Exchange, and I had random colors and textures like you wouldn't believe. And some hairstyles were only found in one color, whereas now I have the same hairstyle in 24+ colors/textures.
I don't really use neons. I'm just not a huge fan. The closest thing I have is Io's bright-red Bastet, which I have yet to actually use on a Sim (I'm planning on it, though!).

Printscreen of what you see on my computer if you click into sim 'Downloads'... My DL folder is a mix of organisation and havoc. I keep my hacks, my skintones/eyes, my make-up, my accessories, my facial stuff etc. pretty well categorized. Other folders though, like my Hair, Clothes and Buy/Build stuff ones, are all over the place. I made a half-hearted attempt to reorganise my custom hairs recently into separate folders, which would be easy to find/delete... I gave up after maybe two hours of a struggle with the Clean Pack installer. Just too many to go through and track down! I'm half tempted to delete all my custom hairs and just start afresh. That's my main hang up about my downloads - I'm not too fussed about my cluttered furniture folder, and my Clothes one is semi-organised, which I can live with. Example of an organised folder (Face -> Eyeshadows): [/img]
Example of unorganisation at it's finest (Hair folder): [/img] i509.photobucket.com/albums/s336/Is_that_a_UFO/Printscreen060.png[/img]
I will say though - apparently, the less sub-folders you have in your DL folder, the faster and better your game runs apparently. People who just dump CC into Downloads without sorting through them might be on the money! But I can only imagine how choresome it would be to remove a piece of CC if you didn't have it in a labelled folder, especially where hacks are concerned. I really don't care whose hair textures I have in-game - though I think Pooklet's are probably my favourite: definitely for neons which I have too many of. It's the meshes that matter to me, so I make sure that I have only one recolour of a particular mesh - although I do have a few duplicates in my game. If I was to start over, I'd make sure to pick up Pooklet'd recolours mostly of meshes I know I'm sure to use. I have many that I never do! Although, Nymphy curls have definitely grown on me recently.

I'm kind of an organized-disorganized person. I have different sub-folders for hair, clothing, furniture, mods, etc. (and then male and female for hair and clothing) but that's as far as it goes. I just dump everything in those folders, so it's still kind of a pain in the arse to find anything in. That's interesting that disorganization might make your game run faster. I never actually heard of that, but it does make some sense.

That's interesting that disorganization might make your game run faster. I never actually heard of that, but it does make some sense. I've read that somewhere, too. Not necessarily about subfolders (though I have heard that after a certain number of subfolders, content will stop showing up), but about pictures and text files. Those will slow down your game if you keep then in the DL folder.

but about pictures and text files. Those will slow down your game if you keep then in the DL folder. Oh wow, I didn't even know that! Maybe I should clear out all those photos and files to clean up my game a bit.

I've heard as well that symbols, such as ( ) / \ : ; - = + * % @ & ^ etc, etc, in file names of your CC also slows your loading time noticeably. Which is... annoying as, while it's easy enough to lose a few subfolders, it's a lot trickier to go about renaming files!

^ I hate renaming people's files. There's something inside of me that just doesn't like changing the original file names, IDK.
