I was thinking, as its all a bit doom and gloom with the site sinking, that there isn't much we can do. BUT, then it hit me, we can actually preserve some things. By right clicking on a page of a loaded story, you can save it (or save the page). I figure if we all get our favourites, then when the Exchange is finally gone, we can open a sort of 'Sim Story Graveyard' giving the original writers credit and all that. I would say contact them first, but a lot of them have long since moved on from TS2 or any Sims things in general. If we all save some of them we can then re-post the old and well loved stories. Obviously don't re-post taking credit etc.
Who's in? Or has an opinion on it?
I've already just saved Positive Impact for my own reading, I've also gotten all my own stories backed up, and am about to go and find the rest of my favourites.

I like the idea, I think contacting them about it would be a crucial part of it though, I'm thinking though, if they haven't uploaded a story in at least three years, and they haven't had any recent posts on the BBS ( you can find that out by searching their names) we should be okay to Save them, like you said just make sure we give them full credit

That's a good idea ! I don't think we need to contact the authors just to save the stories, but we definately should before we upload them. Also, on some browsers (like mine) it's "File"-->"Save as..." instead of right-click-->"Save as..." So far, I've saved the prelude of the "Apocalypso A-Go-Go". If I have time tommorrow, I'll save the whole series :-).

That's an excellent idea Amy . I should go back up all of my favorites. Maybe we should start a thread saying all of the stories we backed up, so we don't do it twice? Or maybe not? Haha .

Bringing this one back As it seems the site will most likely be going, I just thought I'd say that I have (for personal reading) Positive Impact, Paper Doll, my own story (Welcome to Wonderland), and I know Fran who writes Keeping Faythe so I can ask her if I can steal them

Great idea Amy . I'll begin backing up my favourites as well. Maybe we should start a thread saying all of the stories we backed up, so we don't do it twice? Or maybe not? Haha . Thats a good idea, I think we should do that as well, but just post the stories we've done just in here possibly .

Ah yes...how can we do this?! I've been wanting to back up some stuff for some time now, but wasn't sure how to do it.
Once you save everything where do you upload at? LJ?

I was actually thinking of something similar, but I'm not comfortable doing it unless I know the writer is OK with it.
I am starting to save some of my favorites to a flash drive for my own reading though.

I am starting to save some of my favorites to a flash drive for my own reading though. Yeah i agree, I wouldn't post anything without the authors approval. Though some of them have long moved on from the sims franchise and be really difficult to get in touch with ;D

Personally, saving a copy of a story for your own reading is fine. But they shouldn't be reposted without consent from the author. Yes, that means some stories won't be able to be published for archiving, but it's the original author's story not ours so we can't upload it somewhere else without their permission.

I agree with you. Usually I wouldn't even have them saved for personal reading as I could just read them on the exchange, but when it became unclear whether the exchange was closing or not I decided it was better to be safe then sorry. But like you've said, no permission means no story

Where else can you publish stories besides LiveJournal? I'd like to preserve my own stories and keep them so my friends can read them.
