It looks like The Sims 3 with The Sims Social faces planted on. I'm not sure if I like it or not just yet.

I don't have much of an opinion on these previews so far, probably because I know I won't have the computer power to play TS4. But I way prefer the aesthetic to TS3. To me it seems weirdly reminiscent of TS1. I'm not sure why. I approve of the user interface, and CAS. Got to be honest though, the box art doesn't look too great to me. I hope that's not the finalised one!

Hmm well I like how you can just drag on the sim for the sliders. That seems pretty cool.
I feel like the houses especially look similar to the facebook game, which just turns the whole thing off for me (since I hated that game with a passion). But these are early pictures, so I won't judge it yet. Honestly I'll probably wait a few months to see what people say about it before actually buying it anyway.

I never played the FB game myself, but I did play the Sims Freeplay on my phone, and I do think that the houses look eerily similar to that...which doesn't really impress me.
I can't see that being the final box art. It's just too...simplistic?
Eh, I don't know how to feel about it, personally. On the one hand, it does seem to fit with the rest of the Sims franchise in that its cartoony. But with a little CC, I imagine that it will be very easy to turn into something super realistic.
I'm a little disappointed, though, because with all of these advances in technology and graphics, there's just so much more that can be done, without us as players having to wait for other players (rather than the game creators) to modify it.
I wonder how close to the final product these images are.

But with a little CC, I imagine that it will be very easy to turn into something super realistic. This reminded me of this post on tumblr. Whilst I think they have the potential to look great, I agree that it shouldn't really fall to the community to supply good graphics. I do actually kind of like the look of the Sims personally, (but I don't trust renders, because a lot of the ones for The Sims 3 look nothing like the actual game) but the main thing that gets me is the hair. It just looks so flat. I mean, usually they make the hairstyles on these promotional pictures look waaay more fluid than they actually are but this is just as though they slapped on some half-assed meshes to their pictures, squinted at them and went "Meh, fair enough. Let's break for lunch". Considering the hairstyles that are produced by the community, you'd think it would be easy for them to make the ones that actually come with the game a little more...dynamic? I don't know. Just how I feel. I guess, apart from the hair, I'm going to reserve my judgement. If I was going to judge it from what's there, I'd have to say, I'm really not that impressed. From the pictures, they've kinda made it look like a slightly upgraded TS3. Appearance-wise, there hasn't been a massive leap like there arguably was between the others in the series. I think I'd have to wait and see what the game play is like. Even so, I don't think that my computer will be able to handle it anyway...

(but I don't trust renders, because a lot of the ones for The Sims 3 look nothing like the actual game) Speaking of misleading previews, have you all ever seen this TS2 trailer?

I had seen it before. It's a very different version from the eventual game. It's more in-tune with the Sims console games in my opinion (such as Bustin Out perhaps). It's even really different to the kid-friendly game Maxis wanted the Sims 2 to be, what with the pyromania or (more to the point) happy sailing stripping girl. Not that TS2 is that child-friendly, what with Woohoo and cheat-powered murder and ghosts and stuff. I still wonder why the original game was certified for the age of 7+ over here (Europe) when it first came out. Elsewhere it was rated 'Teen'; and all subsequent EPs and SPs released here were for 12+. Also, did anyone else read that Maxis are the ones behind TS4? If this is true, it's good news for the franchise, in my opinion. I think the company's influence was missed greatly in The Sims 3 (as far as I know, the crowd behind the EA Sports games developed TS3). It's not like EA won't have any influence on this latest game (it's still publishing it) but if it's Maxis creating the game, I'll definitely take more of an interest in its release and reception.

I'm actually very excited for this game. Has everyone seen the gameplay video?Oh, and this post, too. Really the only thing I'm psyched for is the CAS and the whole 'mood' thing AND THE HOUSE-BUILDING. OMG. People were freaking out about OMG THE HAIR MOVES, but in actual gameplay, I don't think it does? Oh yeah, and I was really excited to hear about Maxis working on the game. I like that they're bringing back the more cartoony style for the game. It seems as though they're sort of taking suggestions from the players, from all the complaining about how doughy the Sims 3 sims looked. It's like Adventure Time, where the writers base story lines for episodes off of what the fans want, sometimes.
